A Walk in the Park

This bull buffalo was hanging out by Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone Park at sunrise. The night before it froze out and you can see the melted frost rising off of his back as it evaporates.

In this shot, I was trying to use the rule of 3rds horizontally while timing the shot so the antelope would be between each buffalo and the hawk was still visible in the foreground.

Sioux Charlie & Multnomah Falls

These first two shots show the Stillwater River in all of  fury. I took them during a "hundred year flood" and really like how the entire river is whitewater at this time in contrast to its normal series of pools. On the second shot I experimented a little by tilting the shot to capture the action of the water vs. the usual level shots.

The final photo was taken in Oregon at the Multnomah Falls. I really how you can sink into the scenery on this shot.

Side-light and Framing

These photos were taken thousands of miles apart. The first shows several butterflies congregating and landing on a popular trail about 7 miles upstream from the Stillwater Mine about a 2 hour drive southwest of Billings in the Beartooth Mountains. The second was taken in the Amsterdam Zoo. I really like the framing of the Ibex in this one combined with the soft background.

Soaking up the rays.

This elk calf made it through its first winter. He's enjoying sunning and the first bit of green grass in the Spring. He was photographed inside the Northern reaches of Yellowstone National Park on Memorial Day weekend 2012.
